This project is establishing joint working in the county on Member training with a view to achieving efficiencies and service enhancements. Using a network of officers and Members from across the County, the project aims to both design and deliver a training programme on a countywide basis, focussing on the core areas that are common to all Members. This will ensure a consistent approach across Surrey and, by reducing duplication, provide opportunities for both cost efficiencies and service enhancements.
• Establish joint working in the county on Member training to reduce duplication of effort and obtain greater value from training budgets.
• Increase learning and development opportunities for Councillors.
• Increase participation in joint programmes and the South East Charter for Member Development.
• Achieve efficiency through joint provision.
• Enhance services provided through increased capacity.
• Share best practice in a consistent manner.
• Promotional events to encourage involvement.
• Extensive survey completed with Members to analyse training needs.
• Established a programme delivery network with Members and Officers across Surrey.
• Delivered a programme of events for Members that encompass general, personal and technical skills. Recent seminars include Communication for Community Leaders, Influencing Change, Managing Stress and Emergency Planning.
The Learning Programme will continue to be rolled out throughout the year, with the sessions spread across the County to encourage participation. Future topics include Ward Work, Case Work and Surgeries, Introduction to Treasury, Standards and Managing Large Organisations in Politically and Economically Challenging Times.
