Enhanced Neighbourhood Engagement

Surrey

This project is working closely with a number of partners to improve community engagement and the delivery of local services across Surrey. Current partners include County, District and Borough Councils, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, Surrey Primary Care Trust and voluntary bodies. By working with Local Strategic Partnerships, the project will contribute towards the requirements of the Comprehensive Area Assessment, the Surrey Community Strategy, the Surrey 2020 Vision and requirements of government legislation such as the Duty to Involve and Duty to Cooperate.

The project will also directly address National Indicator targets NI4 (percentage of people who feel they can influence decisions in their locality), NI5 (overall satisfaction with a local area) and NI21 (dealing with local concerns about anti-social behaviour/crime by local councils and the police).

What did we set out to achieve?

• Work towards delivering an integrated model across Surrey for neighbourhood engagement and consultation involving key Local Strategic Partnership partners.
• Build the capacity of partners to engage with communities.
• Jointly commission services in conjunction with local communities.
• Deliver services that respond to local needs.
• Develop joint data and information sharing protocols and a joint repository.

What have we achieved so far?

• Completed an audit of engagement activity.
• Published a joint community engagement framework and toolkit, helping enable partnership working in Surrey to achieve a shared vision and direction for future activity in this area.
• Commissioned pilot community engagement projects in priority area neighbourhoods.
• Supported the development of a Surrey-wide data sharing observatory.
• Funded an innovative, interactive community consultation tool, which can be utilised by a range of organisations when engaging with citizens.

How can your council benefit?

Further work will take place to further develop the data observatory and to deliver the planned community enagagement work within priority neighbourhoods.
